January

2024 started slowly. I was still recovering from brain surgery and playing lots of Fallout 4. I also had time to cook a mushroom risotto.

Thought it was a struggle to see the total solar eclipse through the clouds, I was still able to experience the fantastic and unnerving feeling of watching the daytime being plunged into darkness.

Clear Launch had a team building exercise at Color Cartel, in which we all contributed to a graffiti mural, which now hangs in our office. Erin and I went back a few days later for a hip-hop show featuring local artists.

Erin and I went to a political fundraiser thrown by my “first” best friend, Jay Mendlovitz, whom I met in the 2nd Grade, while attending Ridgeview Elementary in San Antonio, Texas. I hadn’t seen Jay in decades and we had a wonderful time catching-up and reminiscing.

In early June, Erin and I attended her niece Lindsay’s wedding in Lubbock, Texas. Thanks to an extremely luxuriant flower arrangement mounted to a backing board, we were able to capture a beautiful Midsommar homage.

From Lubbock, we continued up to Durango to get Finley for our Summer visit. On the way back home, we stopped in Santa Fe, NM to go to Meow Wolf.
July

We had our Summer weekend with Denise in San Antonio, where we enjoyed her neighborhood pool.

David came down for my traditional birthday weekend of dinner at Truluck’s on Saturday and dancing at Elysium on Sunday night.

We had planned on spending Halloween in New Orleans, but Duran Duran announced another special Halloween concert at Madison Square Garden, so we changed our plans and flew to NYC. You can read more about it soon.
November

Erin and I met Janea, her husband John, and daughter Kate to see the final performance of The Eggmen, who had decided to retire after playing for more than 30 years. We caught them at El Mercado South, which closed in 2025 after 40 years. Luckily, my beloved El Mercado on Burnet Road is still going.
