The title song to No Time To Die dropped today and Billie Eilish has effortlessly availed herself of the criticism that she was “too young” or “too strange” or “too dark” to do a proper Bond theme.
This isn’t a torch song. This is the song after. Billie’s voice, cracking with emotion, is the smoke rising from the extinguished torch… drifting, weaving around familiar musical cues, rising to fill the room. But the song never explodes into the bombast of other Bond themes. The room is never lit by anything more than embers. This is the first Bond theme in decades I have loved on first listen.
